to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to you joining us online in June. The past year has been a transformative one for us all. Driven by need, more people were forced into the educational technology workspace. The CALL space moved from tech in the classroom to tech in the living room. Emergency Remote Teaching was the name of the game, and, even if only for a month or two, everyone, everywhere was impacted. How has this time transformed our teaching? How will it inform the teaching in the next years. Where do we continue to go from here?
Rather than asking “5 ways to use App X in the classroom,” our focus will continue to be focused on how you can achieve specific goals by applying unique pedagogical innovations around your classroom’s technology usage. Consider the why
, and how
of teaching with tech and show off your amazing work.We welcome both practical approaches as Show & Tell, Poster, and Workshop presentations as well as Paper and Poster presentations associated with but not limited to the following topics:
- Task design (cognitive-interactional, psycholinguistic, sociocultural, psychological, educational aspects, etc.)
- Models of design (cognitive load theory, spaced learning, situated learning, etc.)
- Theories of SLA (sociocultural theory, constructivism, complexity theory, etc.)
- Dimensions of engagement (cognitive, behavioral, emotional, social)
- Assessment and evaluation of learning, etc.
Include empirical studies in a given CALL environment, theoretical discussion of an issue relevant to the field of CALL, evaluative studies of courseware in use, discussion of policies or strategies at an institutional, regional, or national level or assessment of the potential of technological advances in the delivery of language learning materials.Length: 25 minutes presentation + 5 minutes questionsSHOW & TELL PRESENTATIONS
Descriptions of a given language learning environment, item of software, courseware or a practical application still in the developmental stage. There is less expectation regarding evaluation or research issues associated with the environment than in a paper presentation.Length: 25 minutes presentation + 5 minutes questions
Include practical demonstrations on how to use various tools or ideas for CALL-based language learning environments. They may include commercially or freely available tools, or in some cases individually developed materials provided there is the possibility of participants either using the tools demonstrated or developing similar tools for their own language learning environments.Length: 70 minutesPOSTER PRESENTATIONS
